Mystery Boxes

Mystery Boxes

Mystery boxes are a “black box” science idea that has been around for a while in a number of different iterations. This variation challenges student to think about modeling and the idea that scientists never know for sure, but build ideas on what they do know.

The links at the right will give you the background and teaching tips for using the mystery box, building your own, and the handout that I use for students as they model what they believe is happening inside the box.
