About BioAccum
BioAccum came out of a doctoral class on the philosophy of science education. It uses a created historical vignette on Rachel Carson and what actually led to her writing of Silent Spring. I have combined this with a unit on food chains and food webs to show how chemicals bioaccumulate through a system. The game is based on actual research conducted on Lake Michigan and uses actual numbers generated in that research. PCB’s are a long term bioaccumulant which do not readily break down in the environment and can have long lasting impacts on both the natural systems and the humans who consume fish with high concentrations of the accumulant.
